Experiential and inquiry-based, focused on real online situations faced by young people.

  • Simulations and case studies from social media and online life
  • Group analysis of news, posts, memes and videos
  • Hands-on use of fact-checking and verification tools
  • Role-plays and structured classroom discussion techniques
  • Collaborative design of lessons and school campaigns

Participants will:

  • Understand key dimensions of digital citizenship and media literacy
  • Identify risks related to online safety (cyberbullying, grooming, hate speech, scams)
  • Use simple tools and strategies for verifying information and combating misinformation
  • Design lessons and activities that foster critical and active digital participation
  • Promote respectful online communication and empathy among students
  • Engage families and the local community in digital citizenship initiatives
  • Develop or refine a whole-school approach to online safety

Day 1 – Understanding the digital lives of our students

  • Introductions and mapping participants’ contexts
  • Exploring students’ online habits, platforms and trends
  • Concepts: digital citizenship, media literacy, online identity
  • Activity: “A day in the digital life of a teenager”
  • Reflection: risks and opportunities

Day 2 – Online safety: from awareness to prevention

  • Cyberbullying, hate speech, privacy and data protection
  • Case studies: analysing real online incidents (anonymised)
  • Tools and strategies for prevention and early intervention
  • Designing classroom and school policies together with students
  • Reflection journal

Day 3 – Media literacy and fake news

  • How algorithms shape what we see online
  • Identifying bias, manipulation and misinformation
  • Hands-on: fact-checking tools and verification strategies
  • Designing media literacy activities for different age groups
  • Sharing and feedback on draft activities

Day 4 – From consumers to digital citizens

  • Encouraging responsible creation and participation (blogs, podcasts, campaigns)
  • Project ideas: digital storytelling, awareness campaigns, student-led initiatives
  • Group work: designing a digital citizenship mini-project
  • Peer feedback and improvement
  • Planning involvement of parents and community actors

Day 5 – Whole-school approaches and partnerships

  • Building a school culture of respect and digital responsibility
  • Collaborating with colleagues, counsellors and external organisations
  • Drafting an action plan: roles, timeline, key milestones
  • Integrating digital citizenship across subjects and events
  • Personal commitments and next steps

Day 6 – Consolidation and celebration

  • Recap game: key concepts and strategies
  • Project clinic: final questions and peer consultation
  • Sharing participants’ project ideas and resources
  • Course evaluation and Certificates of Attendance
  • Closing circle and optional cultural activity
