Giorgos Giannakas

George Giannakas has been Head of the Directorate of Secondary Education in Evrytania, Central Greece since 7/2022. Academically, he has a degree in Physics from the University of Athens, a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of Athens, a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Digital and Soft Skills in Educational Sciences from the International Hellenic University (I.H.U.) and he is a Ph.D. holder, name of thesis, ” Design of Integrated RF to DC Power Converters “, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Thessaly. He is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Physics, which is part of the School of Sciences of the University of Thessaly.

He specialises in the design of CMOS analog circuits for RF energy harvesting, and he is also an ICT trainer in the Ministry of Education, but also and in STE(A)M approaches (Arduino @ E-twinning, Scratch). He has taught for 3 years in private education, 15 years in public secondary education and 25 years as a mentor teacher in universities (mainly in the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications, which is part of the School of Applied Sciences of the University of Thessaly), while he has been the head of the LCNS (Laboratory Centre of Natural Sciences) in the region of Phthiotida (experimental teaching of physics, chemistry and biology) for 5 years, while he was also the scientific and organisational responsible of the Observatory-Planetarium in the Municipality of Ypati-Lamia (LCNS department).

He was also the Director of the 1st High School of Lamia, before taking up the position of Coordinator of Science Education at the Regional Centre for Educational Planning of the Regional Directorate of Education of Central Greece, with responsibility (support of science teachers, through seminars/webinars) in the regions of Phthiotida and Voiotia, about 6.5 years ago. He designs and maintains websites (in WordPress) mainly in his work. He has participated (proposal writing/implementation) in more than 10 European (Erasmus+) projects (mainly at OpenUp).  He speaks English at the highest level (C2).
