Dr.Polatoglou Chariton received his B.Sc. degree in Physics in 1977 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, followed by his M.Sc. in Electronic Physics and his Ph.D. in Theoretical Solid State Physics, which he completed in 1985 at the same university. He was appointed as a research associate in 1981 and in 1986 was elected as a Lecturer in the Department. He visited as a postdoctoral researcher the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and the Fritz-Haber Institute in Berlin. In 1990 he was elected to the position of Assistant Professor and in 1995 to the position of Associate Professor which he still holds today.
His research work counts 83 papers in scientific journals and international conferences and 670 references in the research area of theoretical solid state physics. Also under his supervision, 4 PhD theses and many bachelor and master theses have been completed. Since 1997 he is also involved in research on Physics Teaching and Standardization and presentation of results in conferences and publications in scientific journals. He is a member of the American Association of Physicists, the Royal Society of Chemistry, Vice President of the Association of Greek Scientists for Standardization and Quality and a member of the Social Policy Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
